We worked with the Local Trust to capture the impact of a ten-year campaign giving power back to regional communities with £150-million of funding over 10 years.

The Brief

With the Big Local programme coming to the end of its ten-year run, the Local Trust commissioned us to create a flagship documentary film to celebrate the programme’s impact. Our task was to distil the stories of 150 communities into one compelling, emotionally engaging film.

Our Approach

To effectively capture the essence of 150 communities over ten years, our initial task was to develop a framework that could encapsulate a cumulative 150 years worth of stories and experiences. Collaborating closely with The Local Trust, we selected five key communities that represented a broad cross-section of the programme’s reach, considering their unique stories, locations, and socio-economic backgrounds.

Filming took place over 5 non-consecutive days, with our agile crew travelling extensively across the UK to conduct interviews and capture supporting B-roll footage.

The Result

The final film beautifully captures the spirit and achievements of the Big Local programme. It was showcased at the closing event, ‘Final Connects,’ where local ambassadors gathered for their final celebration. The film received enthusiastic applause, emotional reactions, and a profound sense of pride as the community members concluded their remarkable journey.
